CLIFTON B. SMITH

Clifton Smith, Consultant, has been successfully involved in federal and municipal affairs in Washington, DC for over thirty years. In addition to having worked on Capitol Hill for almost 10 years, Mr. Smith's diverse background reflects both public and private sector service as an education specialist, foreign affairs and international business development/market access professional and as a telecommunications consultant. Mr. Smith has represented the interests of telecommunication companies, corporations and institutions of higher learning, as well as foreign governments.

Prior to joining Alcalde & Fay, Mr. Smith was a managing associate for The Carmen Group, Inc. a governmental affairs and public advocacy firm in Washington, DC. Prior to that, Mr. Smith served as senior associate and vice president for international business development at Linton, Mields, Reisler & Cotonne, Ltd. From 1990-1996, Mr. Smith served as President of Conti-National Business Services, Inc., an international market access and business development firm, also located in Washington, DC.

Mr. Smith has also held positions as the secretary of state with the government of the District of Columbia; chief of staff to Mayor Marion S. Barry; chief of staff to Representative Rev. Dr. Walter E. Fauntroy; and special assistant to the president of the pre-cursor institutions of the University of the District of Columbia (Washington Technical Institute/Federal City College/District of Columbia Teachers College).

Mr. Smith is the co-founder of a highly successful program in adult education in the District of Columbia Public School System and has served as an adjunct professor at American University. In addition, he has been active in grass roots coalition building and advocacy organizing. He has served on numerous national boards and commissions, as well as local, and has worked on projects in Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Pacific Rim countries.

Mr. Smith holds a Juris Doctor Degree from the American University College of Law in Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Howard University, where he also pursued graduate studies.
