Nancy Gibson Prowitt, Managing Partner, has earned a reputation for being one of Washington’s top-tier government relations experts. At Alcalde & Fay, she has worked in some capacity on a number of different types of clients, both public and private, in her more than two decades with the firm. She has been the Managing Partner since 1994.

Before joining Alcalde & Fay, Ms. Prowitt served as a legislative assistant to a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee from Virginia both as a personal office staffer, and then as an Appropriations staffer. She also served as Regional Communications Manager for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce based in the Chicago suburbs.

Ms. Prowitt’s in-depth knowledge of the Congressional process, combined with her nationwide contacts at both the regional and local levels, gives her a unique perspective in the formulation, communication and implementation of legislative strategies and initiatives. Her appropriations background as a staffer on the Hill has helped ensure positive results for clients seeking federal funding.

Ms. Prowitt also has an extensive background in “grass roots” communications campaigns after having managed many campaigns for coalition and corporate clients at the firm. She headed up the firm’s effort on behalf of the Keep America Moving Coalition (made up of the American Automobile Manufacturers Association, American Petroleum Institute, Highway Users Federation, and the American Trucking Associations) to secure passage of the National Highway System. At the firm, she also served as the Executive Director of the Alliance for Clean Energy (ACE), a coalition of low sulfur coal producing and transporting companies formed to represent the industry’s position on acid rain control legislation for seven years. In this capacity, Ms. Prowitt designed and executed grassroots public education and information campaigns in 45 states. As a result of experience gained through numerous public appearances, and her personal contacts with print, radio and television media, Ms. Prowitt has also been called upon to act as media spokesperson from time to time for Alcalde & Fay clients.

A native of Chicago, Ms. Prowitt holds a B.A. degree from DePauw University in Indiana. She has served on the board of directors of the Congressional Award Foundation, and of the Arlington Women’s Civic Alliance.
